Normal Debate operates a social media platform for debaters that allows them to participate in discourse within their community and the world as a whole. One of the founding values of Normal Debate is the protection of both user data privacy and safety, and this statement will outlay the ways in which we collect and use your data.

When you use Normal Debate, we collect some basic information that makes your experience meaningful. This ranges from your name, username, and other account data, to basic usage statistics that help us determine traffic patterns from our users. Collection of your data With the exception of general usage metrics, the only data we collect from our users is the data that you explicitly provide to us. We do not search for, aggregate, or otherwise obtain data that hasn't been authorized and explicitly provided by you, the user. This may include information about your name, username, positions and outstanding arguments, and information provided to us through an external authentication method, such as Google or Facebook. When using an external authorization application, we only collect the data authorized to be provided to us by that application and do not seek the collection of additional data from these platforms without prior notification to you, the user. At no point will we use this data to operate an account on an external platform without your permission. We do not store passwords from these applications. Your data may be used to serve users targeted advertising. Data storage All user data is stored in a secure environment and all passwords are encrypted. We do not provide public access to our databases and limit their internal use. At no point may your data be used to connect your online profile to your real identity without your consent, and your data is never sold or otherwise given to a third party for this purpose. Analytical data, which is collected to understand general trends in user usage of our platform, is stored in a similarly secure environment and is not used or shared for purposes of real-world identity verification. Finally, while we maintain high standards for our external vendors and employ industry-standard practices for data security and protection, we cannot verify the data collection and storage practices of each vendor, and this is a risk that our users may assume. We promise to clearly outline our affiliation with these third party vendors prior to your usage of them.
